Not as Dramatic as it Sounds: Or as final. Or as insurance voiding. In some ways should have started this right at the beginning, when could see our own breath inside the chalet for hours on end until the building fabric approached something a bit more sensible, and a little less life threatening, than the minus 15 we started in. But, at that point didn't know exactly when the renovation would really start - and didn't want to live in a building site for 5 months or so.
Pine Cladding Makes Excellent Kindling: And it really does. It whooshes up like Billy-o, and creates a really satisfying proper eyelash-singing heat. And best of all it's free, meaning that we can start to get rid of the overwhelming sauna style orange cladding on all the walls, ceiling and floor, and get a head start on some of the stripping before the building work can truly begin in July.
The First Major Change: Ripped out the partition wall between the entrance hall/ staircase and the fireplace area. Can already see what a massive difference it's going to be when all the walls come down, Travelling Wilberries style, later on this year - and the middle level will go completely open plan. There is already so much more light and air, and, of course, more heat from that burning cladding...
Before it significantly warms up for summer and pre-renovation, there is plenty more to burn...which sounds super sinister, but really isn't. Will get started on the Upper Level next, and work downwards. Like a New Year New You Pine Detox. Or even a more spiritual cleansing by fire, banishing out the old orange pine demons forever, never to return.
